High Season Presents an Introduction to Coffee

Coming to Australia and studying at Lonsdale Institute - High Season has been an amazing experience for me. I learned about the culture and how working in Australia differs from the Philippines, where I am from, or in the US, where I have worked previously. 

But studying here has helped me become knowledgeable and ready for work. I used only serving and clearing plates, but with coffee making as part of the course, I am now one of the main baristas at Park Hyatt Melbourne, where I have worked for two years. 

As I continued studying, I also learned a lot about different types of Australian wines, gin, beer, and spirits, which are essential in the industry.

The way I interact with guests has improved, as has my service. These are just some of the things I have learned while studying. Simply put, High Season, led by Cate, has made it easy for me to learn and adapt here in Australia. 

I will always recommend High Season because I would like others to experience the hospitality industry here in Australia, not just by the books but through face-to-face interactions with restaurant owners, managers, and staff or the different activities/experiences they provide for their students.

The Event Management Course has given me the tools and know-how to succeed in this industry. After returning to Portugal, I found a job in my field as an Event Coordinator, and all I've learned with this course has helped me succeed and grow in this position. I often go back to my notes and the experience I've gained throughout the course while working in my new position. It was an asset to have completed this course, and it helps us prepare for the future.

The Certificate IV program provided me with invaluable skills essential for managing a workspace in accordance with hygiene and food handling standards, which are paramount for delivering excellent service. I gained proficiency in team organisation, utilising shift management software and budget allocation, which are crucial for comprehending financial management and expenditure within a workplace. Moreover, the program enhanced my communication skills, a necessity for thriving in the hospitality industry.

Thinking of my time at High Season, the course has been instrumental in creating and shaping my journey within the hospitality industry.

Although I had no prior base or knowledge of the industry, I owe much of my achievements to the understanding, skills, experience, and, of course, lots of patience I gained during my time at High Season.

The course gave me a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of hospitality and equipped me with practical skills essential for any job in this field.

The practical experience and industry insights shared by many experienced instructors I met during our excursions were invaluable.

Through different practical sessions, including my first jobs in this field, I gained a deeper knowledge of the flow of the hospitality business and learned how to affront challenges effectively.

Overall, it was the perfect combination of knowledge and practical application that helped me confidently pursue opportunities within the hospitality industry. Today, I've experienced many of the things that I used to see as a spectator, and I am excited to continue growing and having more experiences.

And if you're looking for a very simple sentence, I'd say... I learned how to work in a team environment and delegate tasks to achieve a goal.

I started with no knowledge of the industry, but the Hospitality Management Diploma gave me all the tools I needed to be a professional restaurant manager. You learn all the foundations - bar service, food service, and an in-depth understanding of coffee.

As I worked in the industry while studying, I shifted my focus to leading my team, managing customer complaints, and understanding the venue's costs. 

I started as a runner and was promoted to restaurant manager within three years of working. When you are passionate and curious about your job, it’s easy to follow this course as everything is well organised, and you meet hospitality and events veterans giving the keys to the new generation.

The main advantage of this course is the excursions as you meet professionals in the industry and discover venues, wineries, and breweries.
